Welcome to the Blanche Hoschedé-Monet Museum
The public museum in Vernon was founded in 1862 thanks to the donation of the François de Brécourt collection. This collection contained some two thousand stuffed birds specimens, originating both from Normandy and far away lands.
In 1966, the museum, then housed in the town hall, was renamed as a tribute to Alphonse-Georges-Poulain (1875–1966), archaeologist and curator of the museum and its collections since 1922. It was officially reopened, in the heart of Vernon’s historic center in 1983, after moving into this old private mansion belonging to the Lemoine de Belle-Isle family.
Renamed as the Blanche Hoschedé-Monet Museum in 2024, pride of place has been given to the local impressionist artistic movement. From Claude Monet to Pierre Bonnard, it depicts a story of Impressionism on the River Seine, at the gates of the Eure and Normandy. Here you will discover a large collection of landscapes depicting the Seine valley and renowned natural sites in Normandy. These works are signed by artists from the well-known Hoschedé-Monet-Butler family, as well as American and foreign artists from the Giverny community.

The museum also distinguishes itself through its unique collection of animal art, receiving prestigious deposits from the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay collections. Works of Rembrandt Bugatti, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen, Paul Jouve and François Pompon illustrate an artistic and scientific history of natural heritage site conservation since the industrial age.
